Culinary weblog Chow shows us how to spice up breakfast food with a bit of liquor in your maple syrup.
Let's start by getting one thing out of the way?the old "hair of the dog" school of thought they recommend in the video isn't really going to cure your hangover?we've said so before. Furthermore, alcohol in the morning isn't always the best idea, but if you're looking to add a bit of an extra kick to you waffles?maybe you're throwing a breakfast-themed kegger?this is actually a pretty interesting little cooking trick.
This boozed-up syrup can go anywhere normal maple syrup can be used, but you can also try it over yogurt, oatmeal, or just down a shot of it. The author at Chow reports that bourbon seemed to go best with maple syrup but there are a variety of opinions at Chow's Chowhound message board for more ideas.
Update: The original version of this article echoed Chow's original suggestion of using this as a hangover cure, but as we've said before and as many of you have noted, <a href="we've said so before">this does not work. Use as you would booze, and not the morning after.
