Samsung show off a whole range of Galaxy S III accessories

Android Central

Everyone likes accessories, right? At tonight's Unpacked event in London, Samsung unveiled a whole heap of official accessories for the Galaxy S III. From cases, to docks and even a "Pebble."

So the Pebble isn't just a Pebble. It's basically an updated version of the old Pebble MP3 players Samsung used to sell. Covered in the "Hyperglaze" finish as with the phone, it's designed purely as an accessory to the Galaxy S III. It has 4GB of internal storage, and one use case is taking it out on a run to listen to your music, without the need to take your new, expensive Galaxy S III with you.

Cases are cases, and it's hard to get excited about them. But we've got them nonetheless. There's a selection of hard shell and leather flip cases available to protect your shiny new Galaxy.

There's a few different docks available too. As you would expect, there's an official Car Dock which is basically an official Samsung branded cradle. No contact less charging on the Galaxy S III. The desktop is also taken care of, with a Desktop Dock and a simple battery charging stand.

Samsung are also offering up their own, branded HDTV adaptor which is pretty much a standard MHL adaptor. There's also a pretty cool sounding wireless charger, which didn't seem to be out on show.

We've got a few shots of what was out on show for you after the break.

EchoStar outs its HDT-610R Ultra Slim Box, says it's 'world's slimmest' DVR

Image

EchoStar has come a long way since unveiling that HDS-600RS early last year, and today the European company's taking the wraps off of its newest DVR, the Ultra Slim Box HDT-610R. Keeping true to its moniker, the 610R measures in at a slim 14mm thin, while weighing in at just under two pounds. Physical features aside, EchoStar's managed to stuff a 500GB hard drive inside the DVR's scrawny body, as well as a couple of USB 2.0 incisions and single Ethernet and HDMI ports. On the software end, the device is equipped with a Freeview+ HD feature that offers subscription-free access to over 50 "high quality" and four high-def channels -- though, you will have to pay a one-time fee for the service. The HDT-610R will be available for pre-order starting May 4th, with Amazon, John Lewis and Mapling being the first online vendors to have it for up for grabs. No word on pricing yet, but in the meantime all you Euro folks can gander at the PR below to soak up the rest of the deets.

Smart Education: How Lynda.com Hit $70M In Revenue Without A Penny From Investors

lynda_com_logoContent companies have struggled to monetize on the Web, and there has been plenty of debate over the effectiveness of paywalls. What's more, tech startups really can't seem to rush fast enough into the hands of angel investors or venture capitalists. That's why, as a digital content company that has been around for years and has yet to take a penny of outside investment, Lynda.com has such relevance in today's landscape. While it didn't happen over night, Lynda.com has been able to build a paying customer base of over 1 million, outshining every major newspaper, and its traffic is on the rise. Using a passion for education, industry experience, knowledge of what is important to its customers, and focus on product-before-profit, co-founders and married couple Lynda Weinman and Bruce Heavin have turned $20K of their own investment into a platform that produced $70 million in revenue in 2011.

Sony exec confirms IPTV aspirations, says they're on hold due to bandwidth caps

Sony exec reportedly confirms IPTV aspirations, says they're on hold due to bandwidth caps

CES came and went without an update on the status of an alleged cable TV alternative the Wall Street Journal claimed Sony was building to push ahead its four screen strategy, but now Sony Network Entertainment VP Michael Aragon has given the rumor new life. Variety reports that during its Entertainment & Technology Summit Monday Aragon confirmed the company is considering offering TV services over the internet, but is waiting to see what happen with ISP bandwidth caps. Specifically referring to the Comcast 250GB limit that has recently come under fire from Netflix and others now that its Xfinity TV app on Xbox 360 skirts the cap entirely, Aragon noted cable companies have the pipe and the bandwidth and can restrict competing services. We've heard Netflix has been trying to negotiate its own path around such restrictions even as Redbox partners with Verizon on a video service, and rumors have periodically popped up linking Apple, Microsoft and any other tech giant you could name to similar plans. What does all this mean for the future? No one can say for sure yet, but unless some of the key players start to partner up instead of go to war we may need the FCC to step in before anything significant changes.
